The West Haven Twilight League, in operation since 1933, is a competitive, unlimited age, wood bat, amateur baseball league consisting of college, post-college, and former minor league baseball players. Our six team league plays a 150 game schedule from May through August. All games are played at West Haven's Quigley Stadium.

A BRIEF HISTORY 

​

The Twilight League was founded on May 13th, 1933 by a groupf of sportsman kibizing on a park bench on the West Haven green. Gathered for sports talk were teh Metcalfe brothers Herb, Bob, and Ted, Jonny King, Ed Canavanm Hugh O'Neil, and Legendary Eddie "Shrimp" Flynn. A few days later some 400 sports fans stormed teh West Haven armory to elect the first slate of officers. The first president was railroad executive J. Frank Doolan. Gridiron legend Luke J. Crowe was elected Vice President; Ed Crowley, treasurer, and Shrimp Flynn served as secretary, publicity chief, and historian

Parade of Champions

On May 18th, 1933, Dolan, a former star player at the turn of the century, led a foot parade from the old Town Hall to PAinter Park, where some 4,000 fans greeted the ballplayers. Flynn's Collegians with Eddie Lawson on teh mound took on the town champs, the North Ends of manager Billy Fritz, in teh first Twilight League contest. Sonny O'Brien twirled for the North Ends. Like Crowe passed the. Nickels and dimes, even pennies dropped into it and the league was off and running.

The men who called the balls and strikes included Charles "Pop" O'Niel, Moose Miller, Hanley Schneer, Gus Howe, Jerry Giffen, JHim McDermott, John King, Franz Fitzgerald, and Harry Noyes Sr. Managers of the first teams were tavern owner Maurice "Moe" Quigley, Dennis Landino, Joe Morano, Mike Sansone, Harry Noyes Jr., Billy Fritz, and Frank McDonell.​
